Yeah, first day of work is always nerve-wracking >.< our work culture is very different here so I'll be cautious esp. when work politics come in D:

PH work culture is very different. It depends on your wealth background whether you come from a rich, middle-class or poor family. Speaking English well here already gives the impression you're "rich" so they associate all kinds of stereotypes towards you that aren't even true.

Believe me, this happens EVERYWHERE in PH.

so they treat the 'english' speakers badly? maybe that's why my lecturer from PH came here to teach us instead of his own Home Country..

He said he feels at home here lol

it's quite an odd perception. I'd have thought PH would be more open to English since PH was once under the ruling of the US some time in history.. *i think i kinda returned the knowledge to my lect*

There has been a history that English speakers belong only to the elite/rich people of society. With majority of pinoys that are poor and only a handful who can afford the basic needs, eventually English only became a "fashion statement". So if I spoke English all the time in the workplace instead of Filipino, people would dislike me for it under the mindset that I'm a rich person or worse, someone who is arrogant.

However if you're an expat working here in the PH, it's a different case if you only know English and you'll be treated like a king/queen forever. lol
